Road to Adipec: At the show
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Monday Nov 14, 2022
Taking the Road to Adipec show on the road, we tune in to talks at the event, where much of the talk has been on “maximising production, minimising emissions”.
Joining for the discussion is Tayba al Hashemi, the chair of Adipec 2022 and CEO of Adnoc Sour Gas, with Christopher Hudson, president of DMG events.
At Adipec this year it was clear that energy is back – if it had ever gone away – but that managing the environmental impact will play a key role in how the industry makes its case to society.
The Middle East, and Abu Dhabi in particular, have shown a willingness to make the investments required to seize the opportunity. The world must follow.

Tuesday Nov 08, 2022
Tuesday Nov 08, 2022
The arrival of COP27 in Egypt, and COP28 in the UAE next year, marks an opportunity for a fresh look at some of the global energy challenges – and how to tackle them.
Ibrahim Al Zu’ubi, ADNOC’s SVP Sustainability and Climate, settles down with Energy Voice’s Ed Reed to talk over international hopes and how the world can come together to make progress.
The world has moved on since Glasgow’s COP, with the challenges of energy security front and centre – running the risk of pushing out concerns around sustainability and affordability.
As thinking swings back towards oil and gas, though, we must not forget the focus on managing emissions, which will play a crucial role in controlling climate change.

ROAD TO ADIPEC: Matching the energy transition with pragmatism
Friday Oct 28, 2022
Friday Oct 28, 2022
The big dream of the energy transition risks coming unstuck if the needs of people – particularly those without access to reliable power – are ignored.
Proscovia Nabbanja, CEO of the Ugandan National Oil Co. (UNOC), and Manfredi Caltagirone, head of the UN Environment Programme’s Methane Emissions Observatory, come together to talk over the scale of the problem and how to find a new way.
There is a need for a pragmatic energy transition, the two speakers agreed, which can recognise these challenges and come up with how best to drive the change the world needs.
Manfredi noted the impact of climate change that is already being seen, calling for the energy industry to take steps to reduce gas losses.
Proscovia highlighted Lake Albert development, noting the efforts that the operators have taken to cut emissions – and the transformative impact of oil revenues for Uganda.

Net Zero Nudge 01: Changing energy consumption
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
Thursday Oct 27, 2022
In the first episode of a new podcast boxset, Energy Voice and EY drill down into what is needed to move the UK’s decarbonisation plans forward. Up first is an examination of how changing our energy consumption may provide in that drive to net zero.
Simon Cox, partner at EY, and Matthew Wright, Matthew Wright, head of strategy and regulation at National Grid ESO, set out their thinking on the scale of the task and how to move ahead.
Consuming energy smarter will provide rewards, but will also go a long way to winning public acceptance. While a hard core may enjoy honing their energy consumption, few are likely to get up at 2 am to turn on their washing machine.
