Gigawaters 02 - 03: Economic impact of the wind power ecosystem

Going beyond the energy transition, the goal for ScotWind is to unlock billions of pounds in investment in Scotland. This investment benefits not only individual projects, but helps Scotland in terms of economic growth. EVOL: A call for female representation in the board room, the future of Kenyan oil and a move away from the ’God Pod’

This week served to shine a light on the board rooms of UK Energy firms, offering some sobering figures on the lack of women holding top positions in the industry. Energy Voice dived into these figures and spoke to those who compiled them to highlight the issue and potentially offer a solution.
From UK board rooms to an oil field in Kenya, this week Africa Oil and the French supermajor, TotalEnergies, decided to up sticks from the Lokichar field which always seems to be just 'a month away' from kicking off. Looking for some serious investment to get the project running, the one remaining shareholder might look to a firm in China with deep pockets to finally get this field going. 
Our globe-hopping adventure rounds out in Dallas as we look to an office block that would make JR proud. ExxonMobil looks to ditch its lavish 'God Pod' in favour of a more modern working environment. However, we are still asking, what are African stairs

EVOL: CCS awards, Nigerian refineries, and Japanese cable factories

It has been a big week for the UK’s carbon capture and storage ambitions, with the award of 20 offshore licences to 12 companies. But a lack of detail on the winners has raised eyebrows, amongst the Energy Voice team anyway.
Next we’re off to Nigeria, where the ribbon is due to be cut on the Dangote refinery, a step change in the Atlantic Basin trade. President Muhammadu Buhari will be in town, but is it a plaque opening, or a commissioning of the facility. Who knows? Well, Ed does.
And news that Sumitomo is planning to build an offshore wind cable manufacturing facility in the Scottish Highlands broke last month, but one ScotWind partner had a big hand in convincing the company to make the leap of faith. It’d be nice if others followed suit……
