Electrification has been a talking point in the industry for some time and with stumbling blocks becoming apparent for cutting offshore emissions the North Sea Transition Authority says there are “concerns targets will be missed without further action.”
Andre Dykes dives into the topic and talks us through the ramifications being set for high carbon emission-producing North Sea assets. Could this spell the end for older assets that will find it harder to decarbonise or will the investment be delivered to keep aging projects running?
Ryan Duff has been at the Floating Offshore Wind Conference in Aberdeen this week where there was one stand-out talking point, standardisation. The Energy Voice team discuss the floating wind sector and whether it is too early to standardise designs, that being said Sian Lloyd Rees pointed out at the conference that North Sea rigs settled on semi-submersible and jack-up designs just a couple of years after oil production kicked off in the region.
Last but not least, Allister Thomas dives into the world of mergers and acquisitions in North Sea oil and gas. The trio discuss the plethora of options for picking up stakes in assets in the region as Allister talks through the news that North Sea operator IOG will be placed into administration.

Road to ADIPEC: Energy transition and gases
Friday Sep 29, 2023
Friday Sep 29, 2023
To be in with a chance of tackling climate change, the industry must take steps to reduce emissions.
In the near term this is going to be around using methane more responsibly, Mark Brownstein, vice president at the Energy Defense Fund, says on this episode of Road to ADIPEC.
In the longer term, though, the pressure will be on hydrogen. The industry faces a tougher task in tackling hydrogen leaks – the molecules are that much harder to contain – but reducing the carbon intensity of energy is crucial.

Thursday Sep 21, 2023

The UK is, once again, an unstable place to do business while warnings abound it will threatened climate goals, jobs and investment.
On the other end of the energy spectrum, oil and gas also remains uncertain as the “wholly unwelcome” windfall tax impacts projects and M&A.
Are things any better elsewhere? Well, yes and no. Ed Reed runs us through the latest M&A landscape in other geographies like Africa and South America.

Wednesday Sep 20, 2023
Wednesday Sep 20, 2023
Money makes the energy industry go round, but is it going to the right places? Oil and gas is continuing to secure financing, despite some recent woes, but not enough is going into renewable energy.
Ed Crooks, WoodMac vice chair of Americas, and Thomas Storch, managing director at Affinity Partners, settle down to mull over the challenges and opportunities of financing and policy.
The discussion around financing has too often focused on the negatives, with financiers and pressure groups flagging what is not getting support. Last week CfD results were "record-breaking" but maybe not for the right reasons, Andrew explains. The team look to next year and discusses how results can change and what went wrong this time round.
Ryan dived into Robert Gordon University's Powering Up the Workforce report which warns 95,00 offshore energy jobs in the UK could be at risk if investment does not “increase significantly” across the energy sector. However, with the right amount of cash going into the sector, the county could also see a serious boost.
Ed explains that Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has officially launched Tullow Oil’s Jubilee South East project and looks into the wider-reaching economic opportunities the development, and those like it, can offer the country.
