Sliding scales, unstacked rigs and offshore horror
On this week’s episode, in association with Fasken: should pay for contractors move with the oil price, the EVOL team pondered, while wondering how far would such a move go. Would oil company executives face such pressure? Fortunately, Mark did not suggest that journalists writing about the oil industry should face similar fluctuations.
In other ways of thinking about old problems in new ways, Ed raised the prospect of using cold-stacked rigs for marginal field developments, while possibly raising the ire of an entire Scottish waterway.
Horror is also coming to the North Sea industry, in the shape of a new Amazon series about spooky goings on. Hopefully this will tackle the issue of whether ghostly apparitions receive payment on a sliding scale for their efforts.
And finally, with the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow postponed until November 2021, we are bringing together some of the leading voices in the energy transition debate in our brand new virtual summit on November 19, 2020. Find out more, and register for the event, free, at etidex.co.uk.
