10 Point Pod 04 – Zero-emission vehicles
If you want to buy a gas guzzler, you’ve only got until 2030. After that, it’s going to have to be some alternative type, with the UK eager to drive new investments into manufacturing.
Electric cars had a strong 2020 and there is a real buzz around them. Much of the focus is on Tesla, and madcap founder Elon Musk, but virtually all car manufacturers are now working on the problem.
Shifting consumers to a new fleet will require certain additional changes. What will the government do when it loses road tax and fuel duties? Particularly when electric vehicles are too expensive for consumers without subsidies?
Maria Bengtsson, EY lead for electric vehicles, and special guest Robert Llewellyn, presenter of Fully Charged, get together to talk through the opportunities and challenges.
Zero emission vehicles are the fourth point on the government’s 10 point plan. Next month, and picking up on some of the themes discussed here, will be green public transport.
